Anders began his Syndicate career way back in event 10 of Season 8, finishing in 19th place out of 50 and having such a good time that he came right back… three seasons later! Anders returned for season 11, playing in 15 events, and has been a regular ever since. Since then he’s played in 129 Syndicate events and made a lot of deep runs, but the one thing he hadn’t done – was win a tournament!
Well that changed on Saturday!
In a 49 player field (with 22 re-entries), Anders claimed his first Syndicate title. As usual there were a lot of memorable hands that no one remembers, but the final hand of the night was fun! With the blinds at 50k/100k, Anders held the chip lead over Farid. Farid called from the button. Anders checked, and they saw a flop of 10♦ 7♣ A♠.
Anders bet.
Farid raised.
Anders shoved.
Farid snap-called, almost beating Anders into the pot.
Anders said “uh oh” and turned over the mighty 7♥ 4♣, while Farid proudly tabled A♥ 2♣,
The turn brought the innocuous Q♥.
The river delivered Anders’ new favorite card: the 4♥.
Only then did Anders remind the crowd (of Jonkey, Farid and Patsy) that this was his first Syndicate victory, prompting congratulatory hugs all around!
Here’s a picture of Farid congratulating Anders…
