Season 19 • Event 16

Congratulations to Jim “Oscar” Hernandez for his victory in Event 16. This was Jim’s second win of the season, though this one was especially sweet since he also got to give an Academy Award winning performance early at the final table! At 3000/6000/6000 Jonkey brought it in for a raise to 20k from under the gun; Jim flatted from UTG+1 and then Tombie 3-bet to 100k from UTG+2. It folded around to Jonkey who got out of the way. Then Jim squirmed in his seat, gave it a good long think, and finally said “ok, it’s late, if it’s time to go then it’s time to go” and pushed his final 130k into the middle. Tombie sighed and made the 50k call, leaving himself 50k behind. Jim then accepted his Oscar by turning over KK while Tombie tabled QQ. The board ran clean for the kings and Jim had a nice double-up that helped take him to victory!

In 2nd place was Ranjit “All or Nothing” Randhawa, giving him two wins and a 2nd place to catapult him into the middle of the guaranteed seat bracket. In 3rd place was Patsy, who made a great run for the victory but came up just short. In 4th place was that new guy, Scott N, who clinched a Main Event seat with his eight final table appearance of the season (the most this season). In 5th place was Jon Towers who earned just enough points to sneak into the playoffs. Likewise, Tombie rallied from Jim’s suck-out to get 6th place and also squeak into the playoffs.

Final Table:

  1. Jim H
  2. Ranjit
  3. Patsy
  4. Scott N
  5. Jon T
  6. Tombie
  7. Mona
  8. Wendi
  9. Jonkey
  10. Paul H

The Leaderboard: There was plenty of drama and suspense up and down the leaderboard on Saturday. Up at the top, Farid, who started the day in 2nd place, wasn’t able to add to his total when he got it all in with AK vs Tombie’s AJ. Both players hit their Ace on the turn and the stacks went in. A Jack on the river sent Farid to the sidelines and he no longer controlled his own destiny. This play also meant that Keith clinched his main event seat. This will be Keith’s third time representing the Syndicate at the WSOP Main Event – the most of any player in Syndi history!

The next contender was Scott Najjors, who started the day in third place. Scott clinched when Robert busted out in 12th place. This caps off a great Syndicate debut season by Scott and will be his first time playing in the Main Event!

That left Farid, Andi, Robert, Ranjit, Alan, Wendi and Maryanne in our guaranteed $1500 seats, with Wendi moving into her spot with an 8th place finish.

Next we have some fun coming up with a 3-way tie for the last guaranteed seat between Paul Hopkins, Christopher Chumbawumba and Jonkey the Commish. They will play a tie-breaker mini-tourney at Ranjit’s home at 6pm on Thursday to determine who will advance to Sunday’s final table tourney and who will be the top seeds in the playoff on Saturday. Spectators, fans and hecklers are welcome!!

Next Up: Our next event is Day 1 of the Playoffs. On Saturday, May 3, nineteen players will duke it out for five $1500 seats and the top two will return on Sunday for a one-table winner-take-all Main Event playoff.
